The Mehdi family announces the 2010 M.T. Mehdi
Courage in Journalism Award goes to UPI's veteran reporter Helen Thomas. The $1000 prize will be presented on November 18 at a dinner in Ms. Thomas' honor organized by the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). http://www.adc.com The 2009 M.T. Mehdi Courage in Journalism Award went to Radio Chicagoland's Ray Hanania.
"Islamophobia" was the topic at Drew University on October 27. Dr. Chris Tayor moderated a panel discussion that held its audience for two hours. Panelists S. Wesley Ariarajah, Yehezkel Landau and Anisa Mehdi acknowledged that Americans are indeed afraid of Islam and Muslims (Anisa said "Juan Williams was right!") but agree that fear, like all prejudice, comes from ignorance and lack of discernment about people. Lumping everyone together is not helpful.
